MLB Little League Classic Lights Up Williamsport

In a heartwarming spectacle at Bowman Field in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, the New York Mets topped the Seattle Mariners 7–3 during Sunday evening’s special Little League Classic, held alongside the Little League World Series. The stadium overflowed with enthusiasm as young fans cheered on MLB stars in a one-of-a-kind setting—Mariners slugger Cal Raleigh belted a memorable home run, while the Mets’ Francisco Lindor and Francisco Álvarez each collected three hits, while Clay Holmes delivered five solid innings on the mound.

Brewers’ Streak Snapped in Cincinnati

The Milwaukee Brewers’ impressive 14-game win streak came to an end at the hands of the Cincinnati Reds. In extra innings, Austin Hays delivered a clutch, bases-loaded single to seal a 3-2 Reds win. Though the Brewers had briefly taken the lead with a two-run homer by William Contreras in the ninth, Cincinnati rallied to force extra innings and deliver the upset.

Phillies Handle Nationals Amid Wheeler Health Scare

The Philadelphia Phillies edged the Washington Nationals in a high-scoring 11–9 thriller. Alec Bohm returned from the injured list and hit a three-run homer, while Nick Castellanos also delivered a clutch shot. Aaron Nola returned to the mound but struggled, yielding six runs in just 2⅓ innings. A late rally from Washington—including a three-run homer by Paul DeJong—fell short.

Beyond the box score, the Phillies are now grappling with a serious medical concern: ace pitcher Zach Wheeler has been placed on the 15-day injured list due to a blood clot in his right upper arm, near the shoulder. The diagnosis came shortly after Wheeler’s Friday outing, during which he reported “heaviness” in the arm shortly after pitching five innings with six strikeouts

Team officials, including President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski, praised the medical staff for swiftly identifying the issue before it became more dangerous ([Reuters][1]). While no return timetable has been set, head athletic trainer Paul Buchheit indicated the clot is not thought to be related to previously reported shoulder stiffness, and further medical evaluation is underway.

Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber commented on the situation’s gravity, stating that Wheeler’s health and family well-being are the priority, and the team is focused on supporting their ace during his recovery.

Orioles Shut Down Astros

Sunday brought a dominant performance from the Baltimore Orioles, who blanked the Houston Astros, 12-0, behind a commanding outing from Dean Kremer.

Cubs Hold Off Pirates

The Chicago Cubs narrowly defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 4–3, gaining a game’s worth of ground in the NL Central. Dansby Swanson delivered the decisive blow with an eighth-inning sacrifice fly, while the Cubs’ bullpen, led by Caleb Thielbar and Andrew Kittredge, preserved the win amid late Pirate threats.
