Still not registered to vote? You have until 5 p.m. today

Pennsylvanians have until 5 p.m. today to register to vote in the upcoming November 4 municipal election, which will feature key statewide judicial races and local contests across the commonwealth.

State officials are urging eligible residents who have not yet registered to act quickly by visiting vote.pa.gov, where they can complete their registration online. Registration can also be done in person at county voter registration offices, PennDOT driver’s license centers, and several other public agencies, including county assistance offices and Armed Forces recruitment centers.

The Pennsylvania Department of State notes that voters must be U.S. citizens, at least 18 years old on Election Day, and residents of Pennsylvania for at least 30 days prior to voting. While today marks the deadline for voter registration, residents still have until October 28 to apply for a mail-in ballot. Those ballots must be received by county election offices no later than 8 p.m. on Election Day.

At the top of this year’s ballot are judicial retention elections for three Pennsylvania Supreme Court justices — Christine Donohue, Kevin Dougherty, and David Wecht — all Democrats who were elected to 10-year terms in 2015. Voters will decide whether each should remain on the bench for another term.

Local elections will also shape leadership for major-city mayoral races to similar contests right here in Adams County, including for local school board seats.
