Stokes, Twill Sweep CC Weekly Honors

de>LANCASTER, Pa. – Senior Bri Stokes (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) and sophomore Shannon Twill (Warren, N.J./Watchung Hills) swept the first set of weekly awards distributed by the Centennial Conference following Gettysburg College’s season-opening victory.

 

Stokes was tagged the CC Offensive Player of the Week after posting three goals and four assists and tying a career high with seven points in Gettysburg’s 16-8 win over Washington College on March 20. Stokes tallied two goals and an assist in the opening half, the latter of which resulting in her 100th career point. In the second half, the senior attacker had a hand in four scores as the Bullets out-scored the Shorewomen 10-3. It was Stokes’ second career weekly award from the conference.

 

Twill as tagged CC Defensive Player of the Week after a sterling debut in goal. The second-year goalie posted a dozen stops in the victory at Washington, which tied for the most by a Gettysburg keeper in the season opener over the last 19 years. The Bullets blanked the Shorewomen over the final 14 minutes of action with Twill stonewalling four shots in the final 8:29. She added four ground balls and a caused turnover in the win.

 

Gettysburg (1-0), ranked fifth in the latest national poll, hosts Muhlenberg College this Saturday, March 27. No fans will be allowed at athletic contests hosted by Centennial Conference institutions this spring. All home lacrosse games at Gettysburg will be streamed live and feature live in-game statistics.
