A beloved family-run butcher shop and farm market with roots stretching back more than six decades will close its doors later this month. Stoney Point Farm Market announced on Facebook that its last day of retail operation will be Thursday, July 31, 2025.
The closure marks the end of a long-running legacy at 1315 Frederick Pike, where a butcher shop has served the Germany Township and Littlestown communities since 1960. While the storefront will close, the family’s other venture — Stoney Point Premium Snacks — will continue operating from its Ulricktown Road facility. That business, best known for its private-label beef jerky sold nationwide, was valued at over \$10 million as of 2024.
The current store, opened in 2001 by Bruce and Michelle Arndt, revived a family tradition that began with Michelle’s father, Charles Nell, in 1957. Nell and his brother launched their first butcher shop north of East Berlin before moving to Littlestown in 1980 and opening Nell’s Quality Meats with Charles’s wife, Naomi. The family grew it into one of the region’s top USDA-approved wholesale markets by the late 1990s.
After Nell’s retirement, the store briefly changed hands before Michelle and Bruce Arndt reclaimed it in 2001, launching both Stoney Point Farm Market and the Stoney Point Snacks brand. The retail store gained a reputation for its high-quality meats, locally made goods, and family-friendly atmosphere.
In 2021, their son, Evan Arndt, took over the business, ushering in its third generation of family leadership. While the storefront’s closure is a loss for longtime customers, the Stoney Point name will live on through its growing national snack brand.
“We truly appreciate all of our loyal customers over the years and will miss serving you and your families,” the Arndt family wrote in their farewell announcement.
