The Pitt, Hacks lead 2026 Emmy nominations

The medical drama The Pitt emerged as the top nominee for the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards, earning 25 nominations, while Hacks set a new record for a comedy series with 24 nominations as this year’s contenders were announced Wednesday.

The strong showings helped HBO Max lead all platforms with 122 nominations. The Pitt, last year’s Emmy winner for outstanding drama series, returned with nominations for star Noah Wyle, who was recognized for acting, directing and producing. Cast members Katherine LaNasa, Taylor Dearden, Fiona Dourif and Sepideh Moafi also received acting nominations, giving the series a dominant presence in the drama acting categories.

Hacks, wrapping up its fifth and final season, surpassed the previous comedy nomination record shared by The Studio and The Bear. Star Jean Smart received another lead actress nomination after winning for each of the show’s first four seasons, while co-star Hannah Einbinder and co-creator Paul W. Downs also earned multiple nominations.

Apple TV+ also enjoyed a standout year. New drama Pluribus collected 18 nominations, including a lead actress nod for Rhea Seehorn, while comedy Widow’s Bay earned 19 nominations. Apple also landed comedy series nominations for Shrinking and Margo’s Got Money Troubles.

Among the other notable nominees were Beef, which led the limited or anthology series field with 16 nominations, and Abbott Elementary, which remained one of the strongest broadcast network contenders. Jason Bateman received four nominations across two projects, while Martin Short, Quinta Brunson, Matthew Rhys and Noah Wyle each earned three nominations.

Special recognition also went to several high-profile performers. Rob Reiner received a posthumous guest acting nomination for The Bear. Michael J. Fox earned a guest acting nomination for Shrinking, while Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour – The Final Show concert special received five nominations. The Super Bowl halftime show starring Bad Bunny collected nine nominations.
