Tonight’s Halloween parade will close Gettysburg Square

It’s Halloween time in Gettysburg, and the celebrations begin with tonight’s parade.

Gettysburg Police Chief Robert Glenny said concrete security barriers will be installed beginning in the afternoon and that the Gettysburg Square will be closed to all traffic by about 5:00 p.m. Police will be on hand to help direct traffic through the detour.

Glenny said there would be a heightened police presence during the event and that law enforcement would be coming from neighborhood boroughs to help out. “You’ll see a real smorgasbord of law enforcement,”  he said.

The parade lineup will begin at 5:00 p.m. at Gettysburg Area Middle School.

A dance party is scheduled on the square at 6:00 p.m.

The parade is scheduled to begin at about 7:15 p.m.
