Toys for Tots in 75th Year

The Marine Corp League Toys for Tots celebrates its 75th Anniversary this Holiday Season. We continue to put smiles on thousands of children’s faces Christmas morning in the Adams County and Hanover Area. Last year, the Adams-Hanover campaign delivered more than 26,000 toys to 3,600 children. This year requests have increased, and the program is looking to increase donations by 20 to 25 percent, said Christopher Bunty, local coordinator of the Adams-Hanover Program. “Is this from inflation this year? We are not sure, but…we will continue our mission to make sure every child has a Christmas and smiles on their faces,” Bunty said. “Everyone has hard, difficult situations that they are going through.”

Toys for Tots Adams-Hanover accepts donations of new toys for children ages 0 to 14. The age groups that need the most support/donations are infant-2 years old, ages 7-10, 11-14, both boys & girls, and sensory toys, but all toys are accepted. Bunty shared the most requested toys for each age group:

Toys for Tots

• Ages 11-14: sports items, headphones, remote control items,

games, makeup, hair dryers, curling irons, crafts, jewelry kits.

• Ages 7-10: Legos, remote control cars, STEM learning kits, games,

crafts.

• Infant-age 2: anything that makes noise.

• Sensory toys are designed to stimulate a child’s five senses: sight,

sound, touch, smell, and taste

All gifts should be unwrapped so parents or guardians can wrap the gifts for their children, Bunty said. If a toy requires batteries, donors are asked to include the appropriate battery with the toy. Families can register to receive toys until December 4th. Donations will be accepted at more than 200 locations throughout Adams County and the Hanover area through December 9th. We will collect toys all the way up to toy distribution day.

The program does a Stuff the Bus at the Hanover Crossings on Eisenhower Drive in Hanover. The bus location is in the parking lot of Harbor Freight. This is the same complex as Corporate Sponsor 5 Below. “The location isn’t ideal for us. This location was selected for us by Kinsley Properties and their management company (ACL Realty Corp.) out of Atlanta, Ga., Bunty said. The Bus will be there all the way up to December 18th. The hours of the Bus are Saturday and Sunday from 10 am – 2 pm.

Toy distribution will take place on December 17th at the New Oxford High School from 11 am – 5pm. If you like to volunteer to help that day or any time, please email Bunty. Our volunteers put in lots of hours all year long and especially this time of the year, Bunty said.
