Track and Field: Shipp tops Gettysburg

The Gettysburg Boys and Shippensburg track and field teams went head-to-head in an exhilarating meet on April 13. Despite a strong effort by Gettysburg, Shippensburg ultimately emerged as the winner with a final score of 82.50 to 67.50.

The Gettysburg team, consisting of Gavin Cole, Luke Breighner, Owen Clapsadle, and Isaiah Sommers, took the victory in the 4×800 Meter Relay with a time of 9:17.4.

In the 110 Highs, Shippensburg’s Xavier Rodriquez finished first with a time of 16.6 seconds, closely followed by Gettysburg’s Kyler Benedict at 16.7 seconds. The 100 Meter Dash saw Landon Keefer from Gettysburg claim victory with a time of 11.2 seconds, just ahead of Shippensburg’s Reid Getic at 11.4 seconds.

Shippensburg’s Joe Surotchak outpaced his competitors in the 1600-meter event, completing the race in 4:52.2, while Gettysburg’s Christian Arentz came in second with a time of 5:14.6. The 4×100 Meter Relay was dominated by the Gettysburg team of Preston Burnett, Landon Keefer, Kayden Smoker, and Tanner Newman, who finished with a time of 44:5.

In the field events, Warrior Gabriel Pecaitis secured first place in the Pole Vault, clearing a height of 12’6″, while Greyhound Traevon Kater triumphed in both the Long Jump (20’6.25″) and High Jump (5’10”). Ja’mere Spencer from Gettysburg showed his prowess in the Triple Jump, leaping to a distance of 40’5.5″.

Shippensburg’s Reed claimed victory in the Shot Discus event with a throw of 48’1″, and Lynch took the top spot in Javelin with a distance of 121’7.5″. Chris Wenner of Shippensburg managed to secure first place in the Discus event, throwing 133’8.5″.
