Trump and McCormick announce $90 billion in tech and energy investments for PA

President Donald Trump announced more than $90 billion in new private-sector investments for Pennsylvania on Tuesday, marking what he described as the largest investment package in the state’s history. The announcement came during the Inaugural Pennsylvania Energy and Innovation Summit, held at Carnegie Mellon University.

Joined by top executives from the tech and energy sectors, Trump said the initiative will transform Pennsylvania into a national hub for artificial intelligence and energy innovation. Twenty leading companies—including Amazon Web Services, Blackstone, EQT, and Alphabet—have pledged to build data centers, launch AI-focused startups, and establish an energy innovation center to train workers in nuclear, natural gas, and AI technologies.

The summit, hosted by Sen. Dave McCormick, highlighted Pittsburgh’s unique assets, including abundant energy resources, major universities, and skilled labor. McCormick said the investments could bring tens of thousands of jobs to the region.

Among the initiatives is a major expansion by Westinghouse, which plans to construct 10 nuclear reactors nationwide. Trump also touted a \$14 billion deal between Nippon Steel and U.S. Steel, which he said would revive steel production in the Mon Valley.

Leaders from major firms like BlackRock, Anthropic, and PNC Financial Services joined panels alongside Trump administration officials. Gov. Josh Shapiro also participated, taking part in a panel on statewide investment opportunities.

The event came on the heels of Amazon’s separate \$20 billion investment in Pennsylvania data centers, announced last month.

Outside the summit, demonstrations broke out as protesters criticized the summit’s emphasis on fossil fuels and corporate AI development. Some accused the administration of sidelining renewable energy and privacy concerns. Pittsburgh police used pepper spray after ordering protesters to disperse when attendees were blocked from leaving.
