UASD sends 7th graders to Envirothon

The Upper Adams Middle School sent three teams to the 2025 Adams County Envirothon. The 7th grade team, Leaf it to Us, consisted of Raelynn Cullen, Giuliana Jewert, Bernardo Monteleone, Edward Ottinger and Mason Smyers. The 7th grade students placed 1st in the Aquatics and Forestry stations. They also earned 3rd place at the Soil station. This earned them 2nd place overall!

Raelynn Cullen said that she “really enjoyed the Aquatics stations. I liked learning about the different types of aquatic animals. As a group, I feel we did the best at this station and collaborated well. I would definitely like to go back next year on an 8th grade team. I also enjoyed learning new things, including things that I may not have known prior to attending Envirothon.”

Bernardo Monteleone enjoyed “competing with local schools. I liked learning about interesting creatures from ZooAmerica. The Harris Hawk was my favorite. They are social birds of prey and hunt together using different roles.”

One of the 8th grade teams, Upper Adams Canners, consisting of Kara Mentzer, Hannah Shank, Bently Dorsey, Tori Pickett and Caelyn Tolar, earned a 2nd place finish at the Wildlife station and 3rd place at this year’s Current Issue station.

Brooke Gates, the 7th grade science teacher at UAMS, “This year’s 7th grade group did extremely well and I am very proud of them! In my 6 years of teaching at UAMS and attending Envirothon, this is the highest score the 7th graders have earned! I am looking forward to seeing this group complete next year as 8th graders if they choose to do so!”

There were 15 teams from 5 Adams County schools (Bermudian Springs, Fairfield, New Oxford, Saint Francis Xavier Catholic School, and Upper Adams Middle School) that participated in this year’s envirothon.
