Ulrich Earns Centennial, USILA Weekly Honors

LANCASTER, Pa. – Senior face-off specialist Alex Ulrich (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary’s) was named the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week and he was selected to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division III Team of the Week on Tuesday, April 27.

Ulrich’s defense came in the form of preventing Washington College and McDaniel College from getting possession of the ball in two victories for No. 7 Gettysburg (4-0) last week. The senior won 36-of-46 (78.3 percent) face-offs and corralled 18 ground balls in the two games. Against Washington, he went 18-of-26 and tracked down 10 ground balls. He was nearly perfect in the win over the Green Terror, claiming 18-of-20 face-offs and collecting eight ground balls. On the season, Ulrich has won 70.1 percent of his face-offs, which tops the Centennial Conference.

Ulrich is the third Gettysburg player to earn Player of the Week status from the conference. Senior defenseman Andrew Horn (Bronxville, N.Y./Avon Old Farms) earned the defensive honor on April 6 and senior attackman Jack Fletcher (Charlotte, N.C./Providence School) was the offensive honoree on April 13.

The senior face-off specialist earned his second career nod on the national Team of the Week. He gained the recognition in his first year at Gettysburg in 2019. Ulrich is Gettysburg’s first USILA Team of the Week honoree this spring.

Gettysburg is scheduled to close the regular season at No. 12 Franklin & Marshall College (5-0) this Saturday at 3 p.m. No fans will be allowed at athletic contests hosted by Centennial Conference institutions this spring. All lacrosse games will be streamed live through the Centennial Conference Digital Network.
