United Lutheran Seminary

Theological education can help you to discern and to live out your unique calling from God. United Lutheran Seminary has a combined 346 years of guiding those called to ministry to the path that God is calling them to travel.

Our rich history includes educating the first African-American ordained Lutheran priest, Daniel Payne, and the first woman ordained in the Lutheran church in the U.S., Elizabeth Platz. The Philadelphia campus dates back to the early days of Lutheranism in America, tracing its descent from the Ministerium of Pennsylvania founded by Rev. Henry Melchior Muhlenberg, the “Father of American Lutheranism,” in 1748.
