United Way of Adams County honors community volunteers at 79th Annual Awards Reception

The United Way of Adams County recognized outstanding community volunteers during its 79th anniversary volunteer awards dessert reception held last night at the Adams County Emergency Services Center. Community members, volunteers, award nominators, and leaders gathered to honor those whose service has strengthened Adams County through compassion, commitment, and generosity.

The awards were recognized under three topics: Give, Advocate, and Volunteer. For the Give Awards, the United Way is thankful for monetary gifts which help the Adams County Community. The Robert C. Hoffman Award was given to ACNB. The Spirit Award was given to Jim Biesecker and Ruth Miller.

The Advocate Awards honor those who stand up for others who champion for the cause. The Education Award was given to Tara Zimmerman and Rachel Hastie. The Health Award was given to St. Francis Xavier Catholic School. Finally, the Income Award was given to Saundra Konigstein.

The United Way of Adams County recognizes local individuals and organizations who give back to the community. They honor youth, seniors, businesses, and adults who give selflessly.

The Gettysburg Area HS Wrestling Team was honored in the youth division. The Gettysburg Presbyterian Women were honored in the Adult Group. Cynthia Salisbury was honored in the adult division. Suzanne Landis was given the Lt. Col. Robert A. Bates Outstanding Senior Award. The Arc of Adams County Jo Smith Leading By Example Award was given to Katherine McMaster. Finally the Gettysburg MilitaryShare Volunteers were recognized under the Organization/Business category.

The evening concluded with United Way’s Diana Fasnacht, the Ready to Learn Director, honoring her husband Jim Fasnacht on his countless hours helping to renovate the soon to open United Way office at the Gettysburg Outlets. Fasnacht announced they will hold a grand opening on July 15, 2026. In conclusion, she encouraged the attendees, “Remember United is the way.”
