Biglerville Borough Chief Hartley led the parade. He stopped his Police vehicle to welcome everyone and announce the official opening of the day with a ribbon-cutting. Biglerville’s Mayor Phil Wagner, gave welcoming remarks. Distinguished group of local and state leaders included Adams County Commissioners Jim Martin, Randy Phiel, and Marty Qually; and PA State Representative of the 193rd District, Catherine Wallen were present for the parade. They were proudly joined by Arendtsville Mayor April Jones, Bendersville Mayor Pete Stoner, Butler Township Supervisor Vic Woerner, and Menallen Township Supervisor Allen Black.

Kiersten Englebert sang the National Anthem. Attendees were invited to sing along. Kiersten is a Senior at Biglerville High School, and she is the Miss International United Miss Pennsylvania Teen.

Participants traveled down Main Street to the Hanover Street intersection as community members lined the street with excitement to wave flags and enjoy the patriotic atmosphere.
After the parade, activities began at 2:00 p.m. at Oakside Community Park. The day offered entertainment and attractions for all ages throughout the afternoon and evening. Attendees enjoyed a variety of food and alcohol vendors, a car and tractor show, a cornhole tournament, and a silent auction.
One of the meaningful highlights of the event was the flag retirement ceremony, honoring worn American flags in a respectful and dignified manner. Traditionally held on Flag Day, the event was moved up to coordinate with the special day at Oakside. As in others years, The Apple Core Band provided patriotic tunes for the ceremony. Commander Rick Pelc from the American Legion Post 262 led the Flag Retirement Ceremony. This marked the tenth year he has done this.

Guests also had the opportunity to participate in the “Step Up to History” walk, which reflected on the nation’s heritage and the significance of the 250th anniversary celebration.

Families, friends, and visitors spent the day enjoying the community spirit while recognizing the history and freedoms of the United States.

Craft vendors at Oakside Park included Diana Himes, Farmgirl Soapery, Gerkin Services, Honey Brim Hat, J&J Crafts, JamCo Graphics, Redding Farms, Ribbons & Bows, Sheena Danielle Candles, and TSX Creations. Non-profit vendors on site were: Adams County Library System, Boy Scout Troop #71, Chapel Hill Church of God, Graceful Harvest Community Connection, Special Olympics, PA State Police, and Biglerville Fire Dept.

The Park hosted several local alcohol vendors as well. Those on site included: Thirsty Farmer, Screaming Bambino, and Gettysburg Moonshine Company. Food Vendors were: Asian Cuisine, Auntie Anne’s Pretzels, Bricker’s French Fries, Jacked Up Burgers, Smoke Show BBQ, Taqueria de Mexico, Open Grill, Papa Louies. On the sweeter side selling at the Park were: Rita’s, Scoops Dreams, AHHH Refreshing, Arendtsville Lions Milkshakes, Sunset Slushie, Victoria’s Bakery, Wilson’s Funnel Cakes, and Kona Ice.

Musical entertainment was provided at Oakside Park. Faith Noel, The Brahman Noodles, Austin Rife, and the Willys performed.

The evening concluded with a fireworks display at 9:00 p.m., lighting up the sky and bringing the celebration to a memorable close.

Mayor Wagner was looking forward to the day and in reflection on this once in a lifetime event said, “I am thankful for the fine weather, the great turn out. The fireworks were fantastic!”

The event was hosted jointly by the boroughs of Arendtsville, Bendersville, and Biglerville, along with Butler and Menallen Townships. A committee of dedicated volunteers met for over one year to plan and organize this special day alongside Mayor Wagner.

Happy 250th to Adams County and our great Nation.
