According to a news release from Upper Adams School District, Sumdog, a renowned online educational platform, hosted its Winter Wonderland National Math Contest from Dec. 6 through 12.
The release said more than 7,700 students across the nation participated in the event, including sixth graders at Upper Adams Intermediate School. Each student faced the challenging task of accurately answering 1,000 math questions.

Upper Adams student Eli Gates proved to be a standout.
“Eli showcased remarkable mathematical prowess by answering 986 questions correctly, securing an impressive fourth place overall,” the release said.
Tashia Neely, his mathematics teacher, described him as a true mathematician.
“In addition to his love of pi and all things math-related, he also has an innate sense of curiosity, a deep understanding and application of math concepts, and the ability to persevere through challenging problems,” Neely said in the release.
Eli also received praise from the administration.
“Eli understands the importance of perseverance and hard work,” Principal Sonia Buckley said in the release. “We are very proud of his accomplishments. I am grateful that his teachers offer opportunities for students to thrive.”
