USPS commemorates 250 years of service with new stamps and special booklet

The U.S. Postal Service is marking its 250th anniversary with the release of a new Forever stamp pane and an exclusive prestige booklet celebrating its legacy as a pillar of American life.

The “250 Years of Delivering” stamp pane—set for release on Wednesday, July 23—features 20 interconnected, illustrated stamps telling the story of a mail carrier’s daily rounds over the course of a year. Each stamp captures a moment in her journey, moving through the seasons in a sequential narrative layout. Created by acclaimed cartoonist Chris Ware and co-designed with USPS art director Antonio Alcalá, the pane offers a bird’s-eye view of a bustling American town.

The release will be celebrated at a first-day-of-issue event held at noon ET at USPS headquarters in Washington, D.C. The public is invited to attend, with RSVP details available at usps.com/usps250years. Social media posts are encouraged using #250YearsofDelivering and #USPS250booklet.

Also debuting is the 32-page prestige booklet Putting a Stamp on the American Experience, which explores the diversity and depth of U.S. stamp subjects—from historical figures to cultural icons. Available exclusively through the Postal Store and other official USPS channels, the booklet includes two sheets of a newly designed Forever stamp honoring Benjamin Franklin, America’s first postmaster general.

Franklin, who helped establish the postal system in 1775, is a recurring figure in stamp history, having appeared on more than 100 U.S. issues since 1847. The new Franklin stamp reimagines an early 5-cent design in a modern format.

The USPS, which serves nearly 169 million addresses and handles 44% of the world’s mail, remains a critical thread connecting American communities. As the only federal service explicitly outlined in the Constitution, its 250-year milestone underscores the Postal Service’s enduring commitment to reliability, adaptability, and innovation.

The new stamps and commemorative products are available at local post offices, usps.com/shopstamps, and authorized retailers.
