United Way of Adams County is teaming up with the Adams County Office for Aging and Manos Unidas again this year to offer the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.
Starting Februar 6, trained volunteer tax preparers at each site will be completing income tax returns at no cost for low-income households and people over age sixty, as well as all Spanish-speaking residents in Adams County . Last year, the program filed over 1,000 Federal returns, bringing over one million dollars in refunded money back to our local economy.

The United Way’s program primarily serves households who earned less than $60,000 last year; interested clients must call to schedule an appointment and complete an eligibility screening. Those whose primary language is Spanish are encouraged to call Manos Unidas to set up an appointment for tax services. Clients over age 60 should call the Adams County Office for Aging to schedule an appointment for VITA-TCE (Tax Counseling for the Elderly).
Scheduling will begin after January 15th and appointment time slots are limited, so please call early as they will fill very quickly.
United Way of Adams County’s appointments will take place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings in the computer lab at Harrisburg Area Community College on Old Harrisburg Road in Gettysburg. Saturday appointments will be limited and dates are to be determined. Manos Unidas will hold appointments at their location at 19 West High Street in Gettysburg on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The Office for Aging’s appointments are conducted in the office at 318 West Middle Street in Gettysburg on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Please note – walk-in appointments will not be accommodated; clients must call ahead to schedule a specific day and time!
Clients at all sites must bring all necessary tax-related forms and documents to their appointment, such as W2s, 1099 forms, rent/property tax forms, etc., along with a photo ID and social security card for all names listed on their return. Joint returns require both spouses to be present (unless physically unable to travel). It is also helpful to bring along the prior year’s tax return if available.
To schedule an appointment and/or determine your eligibility to participate in the VITA/TCE programs, please call the appropriate location as listed here:
