Water webinars, volunteer opportunities, and seedlings

Once again, this spring, the Watershed Alliance of Adams County and Adams County Conservation District will partner with Keystone 10 Million Trees to distribute approximately 6,900 free seedlings to interested residents of Adams County. While our expected inventory is smaller than some of our past distributions, we look forward to engaging many new Adams County planting partners with the opportunity to improve our water quality and natural habitat.

Keystone 10 Million Trees offers a variety of tree and shrub species for our partnership to select from. The species selected are based on the benefit to our watershed, the ability of a given species to thrive in our area, and its popularity among planting partners. Our seedlings will find homes in small backyards, large areas needing erosion prevention, and farmland needing habitat revitalization. We invite all interested Adams County residents to join us in this season’s seedling distribution!

Check the Watershed Alliance website at adamswatersheds.org/acpp for a list of the tree and shrub species we expect to receive from the Keystone 10 Million Trees program. The descriptions will help you choose the most appropriate species for your planting space.

Requests for seedlings will begin on Saturday, March 22, and seedlings will be available for pickup on Thursday, April 10, and Saturday, April 12. Be sure to submit your orders early if you’re interested….the seedlings go fast!

Mark your calendars! Here are some key dates for this spring’s distribution:

Saturday, March 22, 9 a.m.: Our seedling request form will open. Check our website for the link to submit your request. Please note: Because of a smaller inventory this spring, requests will be limited to fewer than 25 seedlings per planting address.

Wednesday, March 26, 12 p.m.: Our seedling request form will close from 12-6 p.m.

Wednesday, March 26, 6 p.m.: If seedlings are still available, we will re-open our request form. A second order per planting address may be submitted from the remaining inventory.

Thursday, April 10, 2-7 p.m.: Seedling orders will be available for pick-up at the Adams County Agricultural and Natural Resources Center, 670 Old Harrisburg Road, Gettysburg.

Saturday, April 12, 8:30-12 p.m.: Seedlings orders will be available for pickup again at the Adams County Ag Center. All orders must be picked up by noon. Those not picked up will be made available to others during our “Tree for All” (see below). No alternate pick-up times will be available.

Saturday, April 12, 12:30-1:30 p.m.: Tree for All: Any tree and shrub seedling orders still remaining at the Ag Center will be offered to the general public, first come, first served. Supplies are limited.
