Gettysburg 68, Johns Hopkins 60
Rallying from down as many as 13 forced overtime in a Centennial Conference championship game for the first time since 2007, the Bullets held their hosts without a point for the first 4 minutes, 50 seconds of the extra session for a 68-60 win and unprecedented fourth straight title.
Through three quarters, it appeared top-seeded and 17th-ranked Johns Hopkins would be able to end three years of Gettysburg championships. However, the second-seeded and 12th-ranked Bullets had a different idea when the fourth quarter came around. Defense sealed the deal.
Alayna Arnolie earned tournament most outstanding player honors after her 22-point, four-rebound, three-steal game to lead the Bullets. Kimberly Hopkins played a huge role in the comeback win with 12 points – seven of which came in the decisive fourth quarter.
Gettysburg is the first Centennial Conference women’s basketball team to win four straight championships. All four have come against Johns Hopkins, with the last three in Baltimore. The title brings with it the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament field. The Bullets are projected to be a top-nine seed in the field and likely to host an opening weekend regional. The NCAA tournament field will be announced on Monday at 2:30 p.m.
