In a vibrant push to boost local tourism, Governor Josh Shapiro unveiled Pennsylvania’s new state tourism brand, “Pennsylvania: The Great American Getaway,” at PNC Field in Moosic, PA. This initiative is part of a broader effort to draw visitors from within a few hours’ drive of the state, potentially reaching nearly 72 million people.
The launch coincides with an $18 million proposal aimed at enhancing tourism and business marketing, reflecting the vital role tourism plays in Pennsylvania’s economy. Annually, tourism generates approximately $76 billion and supports over 486,000 jobs within the state. Governor Shapiro emphasized that this sector is crucial for economic growth, community support, and job creation.

Following the announcement, Governor Shapiro and his family will conduct a week-long RV tour across 14 counties, promoting Pennsylvania’s attractions ranging from historical sites and outdoor adventures to culinary experiences and sports events.
The campaign, “Your Great American Getaway Starts Here,” set to run through the summer, targets regional markets including New York City, Washington DC, and Toronto. It aims to showcase Pennsylvania’s accessibility and the diverse experiences it offers, ideal for quick weekend getaways.
This strategic move marks a significant step in revitalizing Pennsylvania’s tourism appeal and economic landscape, aligning with Governor Shapiro’s economic development strategy to elevate the state as a top destination for travelers.
