WellSpan Philhaven hires Addictionologist

Mitchell Crawford, D.O., is the new director of addiction services for WellSpan Philhaven. He provides support and creates clinical services for the treatment of addiction throughout the entire WellSpan Health system in Adams, Franklin, Lancaster, Lebanon and York counties.

Crawford has received specialized training in the treatment of substance abuse disorders, such as those involving opioids, alcohol and nicotine. He is an advocate of medication assisted treatment, which uses medications in combination with counseling and behavioral therapy, for patients with substance use disorders.

“The overall goal for me has always been to alleviate suffering,” he said. “My goal is to meet patients where they are in their journey, so I can support them and their recovery.”

A native of Lancaster County, Crawford earned his medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and did a psychiatric residency at Harvard Medical School/VA Boston Healthcare.
