Syracuse, N.Y. — WellSpan Health announced an agreement to acquire Evangelical Community Hospital to expand WellSpan’s reach into 12 counties in central Pennsylvania and northern Maryland.
WellSpan Health said it would take ownership of Evangelical Community Hospital on or about July 1, 2024, in a deal that would expand WellSpan’s reach into 12 counties in central Pennsylvania and northern Maryland. The acquisition is subject to regulatory approval.

“WellSpan Health and Evangelical Community Hospital have entered into a definitive agreement to enhance community-based health care across the region,” WellSpan Health said in a news release. “Pending regulatory approval, Evangelical Community Hospital will become WellSpan Evangelical Community Hospital on or about July 1, 2024. Their accompanying network of care serving the Central Susquehanna Valley will also join WellSpan, expanding the combined reach of the organizations across 12 counties in Central Pennsylvania and Northern Maryland.”
WellSpan Health said the agreement would create “a fantastic combination” that would preserve local control of healthcare in the area.
“At the end of the day, we work for this community, and our job is to care for it,” Kendra Aucker, president and CEO of Evangelical Community Hospital, said in a news release. “With this partnership, that will not change.”
The new hospital organization will have nearly 1.3 million patients across 12 counties, including York, Lancaster, Franklin, Delaware, Maryland, and Jefferson counties in Pennsylvania.
