How It Happened…
-
First Quarter
- Diarra Oden, who ranks second in the CC in points per game, scored the first set of points for the Blue Jays and helped the team to a 7-2 run. The runs reversed as Yantsos drained a trey to trigger a Bullets 7-2 stretch, which was capped by the tying lay-up by Hahner to make it 9-all with 2:36 left. The lead changed a couple of more times in the following minutes, but the visitors took a two-point edge heading into the second quarter as Kristin Ralston notched the lay-up as time was expiring.
-
Second Quarter
- Four lead changes and two ties occurred in the second quarter, as the margin never exceeded more than four points. Gettysburg opened the second with back-to-back buckets by Gehrin and a jumper by Cesareo to make it 19-15. Johns Hopkins out-scored Gettysburg 8-0, including knocking down back-to-back three’s to pull ahead by two. The scoring went quiet until the final seconds left in the quarter as sophomore Christina Richson (Summit, N.J./Summit) made the lay-up to tie the game at 23-23 heading into intermission.
-
Third Quarter
- Gehrin started the second half with the hot-shooting hand as she netted eight straight points to bring Gettysburg ahead by six. The advantage grew to seven for the Bullets, twice, which was the largest lead up to that point in the game. Gettysburg closed out the third quarter by Yantsos sinking a free throw and Cesareo hitting a jumper to head into the final quarter with a 38-31 lead.
-
Fourth Quarter
- Cesareo tallied five points in a row to propel the Bullets on an 11-2 spurt, giving the Orange and Blue a double-figure advantage for the first time in the game. Johns Hopkins did not back down and accumulated the next eight points to come within five with under 2:30 to go. The Bullets defense buckled down and held the Blue Jays scoreless for the rest of the game to claim their 15th victory in a row.
By the Numbers
- Gettysburg climbed the national rankings this week as they are No. 20 in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Associations (WBCA) and No. 22 in the D3hoops.com poll.
- With the win today, the Bullets claim their 15th in a row. The 1984-85 squad, who won 17 straight, holds the longest streak. During that season, they appeared in the NCAA tournament.
- Gettysburg remains the only team with an undefeated conference record. Haverford College is right behind in second with its only conference loss coming against the Bullets.
- Gettysburg held Johns Hopkins to just 24.6 percent shooting from the floor, including just 5-of-21 from beyond the arc.
- The Orange and Blue scored 10 points off Johns Hopkins turnovers.
- The Blue Jays held a 37-35 advantage in rebounds.
- In back-to-back games, Gehrin has netted at least 16 points and pulled down six rebounds.
