Women’s Basketball : No. 22 Gettysburg Dials Deep in Win against Washington

Four players registered double-figure scoring as 22nd-ranked Gettysburg College (14-1, 10-0 CC) tied a program record 14 made three-pointers as the Bullets claimed their 14th straight win by taking down Centennial Conference opponent Washington College (6-10, 3-8 CC), 83-53, on Saturday afternoon in women’s basketball action.

How It Happened…

  • First Quarter
    • The Bullets led from start to finish and ballooned their lead to 12 (16-4) off a lay-up by Cesareo. Gettysburg finished the final 1:21 by netting eight in a row with Rice and classmate Tori Yantsos (Rockville, Md./Holy Child) draining back-to-back trey’s and Tinner connecting on a lay-up. The Orange and Blue shot an outstanding 61.1 percent (11-of-18) from the field in the frame.
  • Second Quarter

    • The Shorewomen challenged the Bullets to open the second frame as they fired from downtown, hitting back-to-back-to-back three’s to pull Washington within nine. The single-digit lead was short-lived as the Bullets out-scored the Shorewomen 17-10 to make it 48-30 at the half. Gettysburg scored nine points off turnovers and canned 5-of-8 (62.5 percent) from three-point territory.
  • Third Quarter

    • Gehrin went a perfect 3-for-3 from the floor as Gettysburg continued with the scoring flow, leading by 27 at the end of the third frame. The Bullets shot over 50 percent with six different players contributing to the scoring column.
  • Fourth Quarter

    • The largest advantage of the game came at the 1:54 marker as freshman Maggie Stapleton (Spring Lake, N.J./St. Rose) notched the program tying mark for three’s made in a game to hold a 32-point lead. Fifteen players for Gettysburg saw action in the final frame.

By the Numbers

  • Gettysburg earned its first national ranking from both the Women’s Basketball Coaches Associations (WBCA) and D3hoops.com this week, ranking at a tie for 22nd and 25th, respectively.
  • The Bullets have now won 14 games in a row. The 1984-85 squad holds the longest winning streak in program history at 17, which is also the season they appeared in the NCAA tournament.
  • Gettysburg tied a program record for made three-pointers in a game with 14. Last season, the squad broke the mark at 14 against Bryn Mawr College inside Bream Gym. The previous program record for three-pointers in a game of 13 was set against Frostburg State University on Nov. 18, 1994.
  • Gettysburg remains the only team with an undefeated conference record.
  • The Bullets finished 46 percent (29-of-63) from the field and 78.6 (11-of-14) from the free throw line.
  • Gettysburg held Washington to a 30.5 percent (18-of-59) shooting performance.
  • The Bullets won the rebounding battle, 43-33.
  • Today’s game marked the fourth time this season that the Orange and Blue have netted 80 or more total points.

Where the Series Stands Now
Gettysburg leads the all-time series against Washington 32-9, which began during the 1993-94 season. In the last ten meetings, Gettysburg has won nine.
