Women’s Swimming: 400 Medley Relay Seizes Silver, Bullets Climb Standings

LANCASTER, Pa. – Gettysburg College closed out the second day of the Centennial Conference Championship with a runner-up finish in the 400 medley relay. Freshman Ava Collin (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) added a bronze medal in the 50 free as the Bullets continued to climb up the team rankings at the conference meet.

Meet Highlights

  • Gettysburg qualified two swimmers in the final two races of the 500 freestyle. Senior Megan Wojnar (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) finished third in the B final and 11th overall with a time of 5:16.28, shaving more than four seconds off of her prelim time. Junior Lauren Manning (West Hartford, Conn./Conard) qualified for the A final for the second time in her career and finished fifth at 5:11.69.
  • Three Bullets set new personal standards in the finals of the 200 IM. Freshman Mia Yancey (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) raced home in 29.79 over her final 50 to finish fourth with a time of 2:09.40, which lifted her into No. 2 on Gettysburg’s all-time list. Junior Annabel Gorman (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) also qualified for the championship final and finished eighth with a personal record 2:11.38. In the consolation race, sophomore Morgan Krepp (Dallas, Texas/Ursuline Academy) shaved three seconds off of her prelim time to finish 11th overall at 2:11.11. That time lifted Krepp into sixth on the program’s list.
  • Collin produced Gettysburg’s first individual medal of the meet with a third-place finish in the 50 free. After improving her season best in the prelims, Collin went even lower at 24.23 in the championship heat, which boosted her into fifth on Gettysburg’s list. Sophomore Natalie Wisniewski (Summit, N.J./Summit) finished second in the B final and 10th overall with a personal best 24.64, while senior Cate Kosko (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury East) was one spot behind at 24.75.
  • The Bullets finished second in both final heats of the 400 medley relay. In the A final, freshman Lindsay Blake (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown East) put Gettysburg in strong position with an opening 58.73 in the backstroke. That time marked the fourth-fastest 100 yard back in program history. Freshman Olivia Pyott (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) and Gorman kept the Bullets within striking distance before Collin did her best to try to catch Swarthmore. The Gettysburg first-year clocked a 51.45 split over the final 100 yards as the team finished two seconds behind Swarthmore at 3:53.64. That time marked the second-fastest in school history.

 
Next Up

The action picks up Saturday morning with preliminary heats of the 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, and 100 back at 10 a.m. The top 16 in each event will advance to the finals set for 6 p.m. Saturday night. Saturday’s evening session will kick off with the 200 free relay.
