Women’s Swimming Caps Season against Johns Hopkins

de>GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Gettysburg College women’s swimming team capped its season with a competitive dual meet against annual national front-runner Johns Hopkins University inside the Bullets Pool Friday evening.

 

Removed from their last competitions by more than a year, both Gettysburg and Johns Hopkins pushed the limits inside the natatorium, striving for NCAA qualifying marks and setting a handful of personal records. The Blue Jays notched four national standards.

 

One of the best races of the night came in the 100 butterfly. Anni Fan ran away with the win for Johns Hopkins with a national cut time of 56.33. Emerson Davis and Gettysburg’s Annabel Gorman (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) and Elissa Clancy (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) battled it out for the No. 2 spot with Davis sliding in front of the Orange and Blue duo at 57.54. Gorman managed 58.13 and Clancy went 58.58, marking the sixth- and seventh-fastest times, respectively, in program history.

 

Gorman and Davis also dueled in the 200 fly with the Hopkins’ swimmer coming out on top with a time of 2:07.91. Gorman logged 2:09.35.

 

The meet also featured two battles between Johns Hopkins’ Kate Overbey and Gettysburg’s Talia Moss (Toronto, Ontario/Lawrence Park Collegiate Institute) in the breaststroke events. Overbey came out ahead in both races, posting 1:05.51 in the 100 and a national cut time of 2:22.48 in the 200. Moss posted times of 1:07.20 and 2:25.71.

 

Sophomore Lauren Manning (West Hartford, Conn./Conard) and senior Katherine Sears (Glenmoore, Pa./Downingtown West) completed an impressive double by swimming both the 500 free and the 1,650 free in a single dual. Manning won the 500 with a time of 5:14.00 and Sears finished third at 5:18.95. The pair closed the night in the 1,650 with the sophomore logging 18:06.10 and the senior finishing in 18:09.06.

 

Freshman Alexandra Zelinske (Pottstown, Pa./Hill School) recorded two of the fastest times in program history in the backstroke events. The first-year went 57.96 in the 100 back, marking the third-fastest time in school history. In the 200, only Cameron Roche with an NCAA qualifying time of 2:03.13 finished in front of Zelinske, who recorded the second-fastest time by a Bullet with 2:06.99.

 

In addition to Sears, seniors Megan Keene (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) and Gabby Barbieri (Wilmington, Del./Charter School of Wilmington) finished out their collegiate careers Friday night. Keene swam the 100 free and 200 free as well as the 200 medley relay and 200 free relay, while Barbieri swam the 500 free and 100 back.
