Women’s Track: DiOttavio Grabs Bronze at CC Indoor Championship

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Freshman Lauren DiOttavio (Romansville, Pa./Downingtown West) finished third with the second-fastest time in program history in the 60-meter dash and Gettysburg College took eighth place in the team standings at the Centennial Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship hosted by Ursinus College on Feb. 26-27.

Meet Highlights

  • DiOttavio continued her blazing pace in the 60 meters this season and took home Gettysburg’s lone medal with a third-place finish. The freshman sprinter went 8.11 in the prelims, lowering her previous PR by 0.07 seconds and improving her second-place spot on the program’s all-time list. In the finals, DiOttavio managed to edge out Abigail Gerdes from Johns Hopkins at the line in 8.12 to seize the No. 3 spot in the race.
  • Morrell and DiOttavio each competed in the 200 meters with the junior finishing just one spot in front of the freshman in ninth place. Morrell’s time of 27.34 pushed her into the sixth position on the program’s top 10. DiOttavio also set a PR by 0.02 seconds at 10.24 and jumped into the No. 9 position on the program list.
  • Alessi opened the weekend with a fourth-place showing in the weight throw on Saturday. The senior posted her longest throw on her fourth attempt, finishing just shy of her personal best at 43 feet, 8.5 inches. She also competed in the shot put, finishing 15th overall at 33 feet, 2.5 inches.
  • Morrell led the Gettysburg continent in the 4×400 relay, which clocked the eighth-fastest time in school history at 4:15.81. The junior opened with a split of 1:02.40 to put Gettysburg in second place at the exchange. Imrie and O’Hara carried the baton for the next 800 meters and Larzelere helped the team push into fifth with a strong final kick.
  • Schauder produced a pair of top-seven showings in the high jump and pole vault. In the former event, she cleared 4 feet, 7.75 inches to finish sixth overall. Pienkos finished one spot ahead of Schauder with a clearance of 4 feet, 9.75 inches. In the pole vault, Schauder was one of three Bullelts to finish in the top 10, tying with junior Cassidy Callahan (Fitchburg, Mass./Oakmont Regional) for seventh at a height of 9 feet, 1 inch.
  • Johns Hopkins dominated the field to claim its 11th-straight team championship. The Blue Jays won a total of 14 events at the meet.
