Senior Colin Devlin (Dresher, Pa./Upper Dublin) became the seventh Gettysburg College wrestler to reach 100 career wins and the Bullets earned three dual victories at the Penn College Duals Saturday afternoon.

Match Highlights

  • Gettysburg held the lead throughout the match with a pin by junior Sean Thompson (Plainsboro, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro South) at 141 putting the team up 12-4.
  • Devlin didn’t waste time knocking out his 100th career win Saturday, posting an 11-4 decision over Jesse Walker in his first match of the day at 149 pounds.
  • Penn closed to 15-10 in the team scoring with back-to-back wins by Trevor Crowley and Dylan Gettys at 157 and 165, respectively.
  • Junior Phil Angelo (Summit, N.J./Summit) scored a 12-1 major decision at 174 and freshman Brendan Loder (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) clinched the win with a pin to open the third round at 197 pounds.

Match Highlights

  • Gettysburg’s match with Hunter featured seven pins in 10 bouts. Each of the first six matches was decided by pin fall with the Hawks jumping in front 18-6 despite a second-period pin (3:53) by Thompson at 141 pounds.
  • Martin put the Bullets on the comeback trail with his team-best 14th fall of the year at 157 pounds. Another first-period fall (1:25) by Larson and a forfeit at 174 put Gettysburg in front 24-18. The Bullets clinched the victory with a forfeit at 197 pounds.

  • Former Centennial Conference foe NYU took eight of 10 matches against Gettysburg. Thompson and Devlin accounted for the Bullets’ victories, the former scoring a 9-1 major decision over Jason Geyer at 141 and the latter knocking out a 10-2 major decision over Donald Albach at 149.

Match Highlights

  • Gettysburg closed the day with a shutout against Thaddeus Stevens as all but one match was decided by fall or forfeit.
  • Freshmen Jake Stein (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) and Michael Daugherty (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) logged pins at 133 (2:48) and 157 (4:22), respectively.
  • Larson broke Gettysburg’s record for fastest pin with a nine-second toss of Levi Blain at 165 pounds.
  • Loder pinned his foe in 67 seconds at 197 and fellow first-year Paul Pelham (Devon, Pa./Conestoga) closed the day with a 5-3 decision at heavyweight.

 
By the Numbers

  • Devlin became the seventh Gettysburg grappler to reach 100 career wins and the sixth to do so under Head Coach Andy Vogel. The senior jumped into a tie for fifth alongside Matt Spano ’14 with 102 career wins. Devlin improved to 22-3 and clinched his fourth 20-win season.
  • Larson’s nine-second pin broke the previous record by four seconds. Jordan Pinnette set the mark at 133 pounds against a Messiah wrestler last season. Larson’s fall was also 14 seconds faster than the previous fastest pin by a Bullet at 165 pounds achieved by Matt Helwig in 2000.
  • Thompson improved to 23-11 after going 4-0 with two pins Saturday. The junior has won at least 22 matches in each of his three seasons and he moved into a tie for 20th with Mike Pattanite ’07 on Gettysburg’s all-time list with 74 career wins.
  • Martin scored his team-leading 14th pin of the season against Hunter. The sophomore moved into fifth on the program’s season list for pins.

 
The Series
Gettysburg remained unbeaten in five meetings with Penn College, while the Bullets scored their first win over Hunter in four tries and improved to 3-1 against Thaddeus Stevens. NYU improved to 13-0 against Gettysburg.
 
Next Up
Gettysburg returns home for a trio of duals next week. The Bullets host No. 15 Messiah College Friday, Jan. 24, at 7 p.m. before entertaining Muhlenberg College and Washington and Lee University for Centennial Conference duals beginning at noon next Saturday.
