WESTMINSTER, Md. Juniors Jake Stein (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) and Eric Mougalian (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) each secured individual victories, but Gettysburg College was unable to gain a team victory in its Centennial Conference dual opener as host McDaniel College earned a 35-7 decision on Wednesday night.

Match Highlights

- Stein put Gettysburg on the board with an 8-3 decision at 141. The junior turned defense into offense, sprawling out on a pair of attempted shoots by Joe McKneely and spinning around the Green Terror grappler for two first-period takedowns. Stein tacked on a third takedown in the second period.
- Mougalian followed with a strong performance against Ty Jefferson at 149 pounds. The Gettysburg wrestler scored the match’s opening takedown, but Jefferson managed a reversal to even the score in the first period. Mougalian took a 4-2 lead into the second period after scoring a reversal of his own. Jefferson took a brief lead with a takedown and near-fall early in the second period, but Mougalian dominated the bout’s final three minutes, tallying up two reversals, two takedowns, and a near-fall on the way to the 22-8 major decision.
By the Numbers
- Gettysburg dropped to 0-2 this season, while McDaniel improved to 5-3.
- The Bullets were without the services of senior Ray Martin (Downingtown, Pa./West Chester Henderson) and sophomore Luke Kowalski (Derwood, Md./Saint John’s College), who are a combined 33-9 on the year.
- Mougalian earned his 10th victory of the campaign and gave Gettysburg four grapplers with double-figure wins this season.
- Stein improved to 7-8 on the year.

McDaniel scored its second-straight victory over Gettysburg, but the Bullets remain in front of the 80-year rivalry 33-27.
Next Up
Gettysburg will make its home debut against Ursinus College and Washington & Lee University this Saturday at noon. McDaniel will also be on hand to wrestle the Bears and Generals.
