Match Highlights
- Thompson earned a pair of wins to earn his third consecutive top-four finish at the conference event. In his opening match, the junior took down Merchant Marine’s Jace Garza 8-2. Thompson was unable to get past Ryker Eckenbarger in the semis as the McDaniel grappler earned an 11-4 decision on his way to the 141 title. Thompson bounced back in the consolation final to win by forfeit.
- Stein was upended in his opener, but the first-year picked up a forfeit in the consolation semis. He was beaten by Ursinus’ Ray Calderaio 7-2 in the third-place bout.
- Freshman Eric Mougalian (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) and sophomore Ray Martin (Downingtown, Pa./West Chester Henderson) each picked up a win in their respective brackets. Mougalian earned an 8-6 win over Alex Winant from Washington & Lee, while dropping a pair of decisions at 149. Martin won his opening match at 157 over Luke Gauthier from Merchant Marine 6-4, but the Gettysburg sophomore was forced out of the remaining bouts due to injury.
By the Numbers
- Thompson clinched his first career 30-win season with two wins on the day. He topped his previous personal best win total by one and improved to 30-15. The junior also eclipsed 80 career wins by one. It was his third placement at the conference event following a fourth-place showing in 2018 and a runner-up performance last season.
- With 18 wins, Mougalian is just two shy of becoming the fifth Gettysburg wrestler to reach 20 this season. Thompson, Martin, senior Colin Devlin (Dresher, Pa./Upper Dublin), and junior Marc Larson (Warren, N.J./Watchung Hills) have all reached 20 wins. Both Devlin and Larson were unable to compete at conferences due to injuries.
