After a careful canvass of last week’s primary election ballots, the Adams County Office of Elections and Voter Registration has announced the results of the write-in votes. Candidates who received a minimum of 10 write-in votes can be placed on the fall municipal election ballot if they meet the other requirements.
The biggest news from the count is that incumbent Gettysburg Mayor Rita Frealing, who lost to her Democratic primary opponent Chad-Alan Carr by 31 votes, received 119 votes on the Republican primary ballot.

These write-in votes make her eligible to be on the fall ballot, running as a Republican against Carr.
Frealing said today that she planned to run, campaigning on a platform of government transparency.
Adams County Sheriff candidate John Wega, who lost to Josh Fitting in the Republican primary, received 234 votes from Democratic voters, making him eligible to be listed on the fall ballot.
A number of other write-in candidates received the required 10 votes and may be listed. The complete list is on the county website.
Democrats have yet to publicly explain why they ousted incumbent Mayor Frealing from the primary party line in favor of a new candidate. I can’t vote for her, not living in the borough, but I hope she wins. It would serve them right.
Let’s retain Mayor Frealing. We do not need the borough council controlling the police department. That would be disaster waiting to happen. Mayor Frealing has done a wonderful job representing Gettysburg to all of our visitors. Comes from a distinguished local family. She is also a lawyer.
