Upper Adams School District April 21st meeting was a debacle, creating unsafe and unwelcoming conditions amidst teacher negotiations. The meeting was held in the UASD board room, which was inadequate space for the Board members and more than 50 teachers that attended. After teaching classes all day, many of the teachers had to stand, and were “packed together like sardines in a hot room” (quote from attendee). After 55 minutes into the meeting an individual fell to the floor and hit her head. Even after the individual was taken out of the room, neither Superintendent Dr. Todd Dishong nor Board President Tricia Plank apologized or moved the meeting. Teachers and community members are astonished that this happened. The School Board meeting’s April 21st UASD You Tube video has been viewed 778 times.

At least two concerned citizens filed “Right to Know” requests. It was discovered that at 11:40 am that day, Superintendent Dr. Todd Dishong was notified by the teacher union representative that a “huge number of teachers would be attending the meeting.”
I am more than disappointed by the Superintendent’s lack of concern displayed. Both he and the Board President should have moved the meeting to properly accommodate everyone. They failed to show concern for the safety of teachers, staff and community members. Parents and citizens of the UASD expect and demand more from our Board and Superintendent.
Sincerely,
Janet Schroeder
Former UASD Board President
