Because the possibilities for social distancing are limited in a prison, officials at the Adams County Adult Correctional Facility are being vigilant to avoid a COVID-19 contamination.

The effort is being led by prison Warden Katy Hileman.
“So far we do not have any presumed positive or confirmed positive staff members or inmates,” said Hileman.

“The facility is on lockdown, there are no contact visits with the inmate population, but the inmates are receiving 15 minutes of free video visitation per week,” said Hileman.
Hileman said some attorney/client visits may still occur using video or phone conferences.
“Medical services continue but have been decentralized to reduce the amount of movement off of the housing units by the inmate population,” said Hileman.
Hileman said other protective measures being taken by the prison include:
- An enhanced screening protocol for all attorneys, staff, and inmates that includes a temperature check and screening questions about signs and symptoms. Anyone with a fever of 100.0 degrees or higher is denied entry.
- Newly committed individuals are being quarantined to ensure they are not symptomatic or ill prior to being moved into general population.
- Increased sanitation and disinfection protocols.
- Educational programs for staff and inmates are being put in place regarding social distancing, proper hygiene, and sanitation.
- Anti-bacterial soap has been issued to all inmates to ensure proper hand washing.
- Treatment and religious programming is occurring on individual housing units to prevent any potential cross housing unit spread due to inmate comingling.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is being issued and worn by both inmates and staff during community transports.
- Enhanced screening protocols are being used prior to transferring inmates to another jurisdiction and/or to a community based medical provider.
