Long-time Gettysburg area resident Al Moyer has been named as the new Executive Director of the Gettysburg Area Recreation Authority (GARA) effective October 8, 2024. He was selected by the Board of Directors from over twenty applicants for the position.
Moyer is a retired public school educator/administrator, collegiate administrator/professor and a current member of the Gettysburg Area School District Board of Directors. He is an avid tennis player and a proud father and grandfather. He and his family have been regular users of the Gettysburg Rec Park.
“I’m very excited to take on this position of GARA Executive Director,” said Moyer. “My family and I have a real passion for the Rec Park. We spend a lot of time there. I appreciate all that’s been done to make this a valuable community resource and I look forward to leading GARA into the future. The Board of Directors and I have some great ideas for growth and development.”
Moyer is interested in meeting with local community leaders and organizations regarding how GARA can work with and partner with them toward keeping the rec park and GARA integral parts of the community.
