Dear Senator McCormick,
Your vote essentially put Pete Hegseth in charge of the Department of Defense….Despite his proven traits as a drunk and philanderer. Republican senators Collins, Murkowski, and even McConnell voted no…but not you, despite your West Point education and military service.
Since then he’s “distinguished” himself on Signal chats in which he shared attack information with his wife, among others, and his lies about that episode (and who knows what else). Your vote gave Republican senators 50 votes, setting up the VP to cast the deciding vote.
Now he has acted to strip your colleague, Mark Kelly, another decorated combat veteran and Space Shuttle mission leader, of his rank and retirement pay all because he stated a simple fact – that members of the military are not only allowed to not obey illegal orders, but duty-bound to do so.
I suspect that military leaders may have taught you that at West Point, where I, among other taxpayers, funded your education.
YOU NEED TO STAND UP FOR YOUR FELLOW SENATOR AND FELLOW VETERAN. If you don’t speak up, I can only infer that you are “just fine” with Hegseth’s obvious attempt to show everyone in the military what will happen to them if they cross him.
That is not America, at least not the America II knew prior to Donald Trump and his criminal gang.

… and Senator Tillis (R-NC), who is not running for re-election and appears to have finally grown a spine, switched his vote to Yes for Sec. Hegseth at the last minute. Sen. Cassidy (R-LA) and a medical doctor voted for RJF Jr. to be Sec HHS because he was assured vaccine policies would be protected. Bottom line: politics was placed above obvious common sense and years of personal behavior on the part of now SECDEF and SECHHS were ignore.
Mark Kelly 1/7/2025: I’ve got a question for you. How many generations of Donald Trump’s family have served in the military? Zero. Now for me and my family, service to our country is in my blood. My great grandfather served in the U.S. Navy after immigrating from Ireland. Both of my grandfathers served during World War II. Both of my parents wore uniforms: my dad, in the 82nd Airborne, and both of them as career police officers. And when it was our turn, my brother and I started as volunteer EMTs as teenagers before becoming Navy captains, pilots in the… Read more »
Perhaps we should strip this plaque from the wall at West Point for being seditious, at least according to Hegseth. He is a disgrace, Mark Kelly is a patriot. A real one, not a pathetic wannabe Rambo draped in a flag whose sole purpose is to kiss the petulant child’s ass.
Pennsylvanians decided they didn’t need representation in the Senate when they voted this guy in. Hegseth is a disaster on so many levels –his purges, his childish bellicose statements, his recklessness, his disrespect for security, his blatant ordering of wa crimes. He may single-handedly wreck th military.
But that’s just the start. McCormick is ok with Medicaid cuts and ACA cuts and RFK’s reign of terror that will kill thousands of his constituents and close dozens of PA hospitals, including quit possibly Gettysburg. He’s ok with the ICE reign of terror.
