Thousands of runners and spectators filled the streets of Massachusetts today for the 129th Boston Marathon, one of the world’s most prestigious long-distance races. Held annually on Patriots’ Day, the marathon drew elite athletes and amateur racers alike for the iconic 26.2-mile journey from Hopkinton to the heart of Boston.
Starting just after 10 a.m. ET, waves of participants took off under clear skies and cool spring temperatures. The final wave departed around 11:15 a.m., with the finish line on Boylston Street set to close at 5:30 p.m.
Presented by Bank of America and organized by the Boston Athletic Association, this year’s marathon once again highlighted the spirit of endurance and community that defines the event. The course, winding through eight cities and towns—including Ashland, Natick, and Newton—offered challenging hills, enthusiastic crowds, and the famed “scream tunnel” at Wellesley College.
Runners were cheered along by thousands of supporters lining the course, as the city celebrated its annual Patriots’ Day tradition with pride and energy. The Boston Marathon remains a cornerstone of the six World Marathon Majors, attracting global talent and first-time racers chasing a lifelong goal.
