A standing room only audience gathered to hear CBS News Chief Washington Correspondent Major Garrett at Gettysburg College on Tuesday Evening.

Garrett
The presentation, “The Trump Presidency: Partial Productivity Amid Impatient Belligerence,” was hosted by the Gettysburg College Fielding Center for Presidential Leadership Study.
Garrett also discussed his new book, “Mr. Trump’s Wild Ride: The Thrills, Chills, Screams, and Occasional Blackouts of an Extraordinary Presidency.”
Garrett reviewed his career in journalism which started at U.S. News and World Report and continued at the Washington Times and Fox News. Garrett then moved to what are considered more liberal outlets including CNN and CBS.
Garrett said his wide experience gave him a perspective on both sides of political issues.
After his presentation Garrett took questions from the audience. Responding to a question about President Trump’s relationship with the news media he said the president loves the media because he understands that is how you get information to the people.
Garrett compared Trump with Lyndon Johnson, saying both men took their cues from television news.
In answer to a question about impeachment, Garrett noted that the impeachments of presidents Nixon and Clinton were long-term events and had wider perspective than the current impeachment.
Garrett said the proceeding against President Trump is moving very fast by comparison because of its narrow focus on events relating to Ukraine.
Garrett said he believed the Trump presidency will be the subject of more study, books, and movies than any other presidency since that of Abraham Lincoln.
