Adult Autism Support Group
Hi, I’m the founder of the Adams County Adult Autism Support Group. Reopened in December of 2023, the group offers a safe place for people on the autism spectrum. The group is held at Freedom Valley Worship Center in the conference room on the first floor on the third Thursday of every month. The group is usually divided into two sections. First, we have “status” which is the “support” part of the support group. An individual has the opportunity to tell the group what is on their mind. This section is good as it allows a person to tell the group what is bothering them and hopefully get it off their mind. The group may have a suggestion! Also, if something exciting is happening in a person’s life they can tell the group their joy. Either way people have a chance to tell the group about what’s happening in their life. The group also offers a game or activity for individuals to participate. Often it is a trivia game about various topics. A prominent example of this would be a Star Wars themed trivia game in May (May 4th is Star Wars Day). We also offer games, and occasionally other activities like crafts, and miniature golf. Once we did an animal Scattergories (name an animal that starts with each letter of the alphabet) and in March we did “superlatives. The group also offers food. We have pizza at every meeting and usually some other snacky item as well as drinks including soda and water. The group also runs between an hour and an hour and fifteen minutes. New York City musician Paul Austerlitz will perform in Gettysburg
Calling upon decades of musical, cultural, and spiritual research, Gettysburg College Professor Emeritus of Jazz and Africana Studies, Dr. Paul Austerlitz, will present original jazz inspired by Afro-Caribbean healing traditions at Ploughman Cider Taproom on April 11, 7-10 pm.
Austerlitz’ music focuses on the unique sound of the bass clarinet.
The concert will celebrate the release of three new videos focusing on the dovetailing musico-spiritual legacies of Haiti and the Dominican Republic. “Sabina Place” celebrates the euphoric atmosphere of Caribbean nightlife, while “Underground Palo” fuses traditional Afro-Dominican ritual drumming with contemporary improvisation, and “Rainb Ow Wed Ow,” offers a regenerative message from the sage serpent of transcendent healing.
“[Dr. Austerlitz] is about jazz and world music, and the precise points where they intersect in the universe…It’s more than education, it’s about opening up new parts of your brain. -Vinyl Anachronist

CARTOONS AND OPERA FROM MUSIC, GETTYSBURG!
“Kill the wabbit!!!” Remember that great cartoon? Chances are it, or one like it, was your introduction to classical music and to opera in particular. Relive those glory days, and introduce them to your kids or grandchildren on Saturday morning, March 28 at 10 AM at the Gettysburg chapel of United Lutheran Seminary, 147 Seminary Ridge.
Your guide will be Mark Tiarks, recently retired from the Santa Fe Opera, having earlier been involved in administration of the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Chicago’s Court Theater, and the Chicago Opera Theater. Mark is an entertaining speaker, and will be showing clips from magnificent animation from Warner Bros., Disney, and MGM. It’s a great chance to hear wonderful music, enjoy great cartoons, and learn something about the history of making animated movies.
Like all Music, Gettysburg! events this performance is free of charge and open to all. Unlike most such events, participants are welcome to come in their pajamas, and will receive free cereal snacks to enjoy.
Music, Gettysburg! is a premier concert series featuring international, national, regional and local musical artists for the greater south central Pennsylvania region. Comments about Gettysburg Pride
Comments from Local Authorities about Gettysburg Pride Week
From Gettysburg Borough: The Borough of Gettysburg remains committed to effective municipal governance and to serving the entire community. Our priority is to provide reliable public services, support public safety, maintain infrastructure, and help preserve the historic character that makes Gettysburg nationally significant.
We understand that recent public comments by Doug Mastriano have prompted discussion. However, the Borough’s focus remains on doing its work professionally, respectfully, and in the best interest of residents, businesses, and visitors. It is important to note that there is no evidence that visitation to Gettysburg has been negatively impacted.
Recent lodging tax (“pillow tax”) and parking revenue data reflect continued strong interest from visitors and sustained economic activity in the Borough. Gettysburg has long been a place where history and civic life intersect. The vibrancy of present-day civic discourse here reflects the enduring principles of self-governance articulated by Abraham Lincoln in the Gettysburg Address. That spirit continues to guide our community today.
The Borough will remain focused on its responsibilities and on fostering a welcoming, well-managed community for all.”
From Destination Gettysburg: Destination Gettysburg’s vision is that Adams County is America’s most welcoming and authentic destination. Gettysburg is a destination “for the people,” a place where a diverse assortment of ideologies can come together and reflect on America’s most divided time. Each year, more than three million visitors travel to our community to enjoy our rich history, amazing attractions, dining, lodging and shopping. As always, Destination Gettysburg will continue to promote this destination to visitors from around the world and support the local economy through tourism.

Quakers Stand for Love
On Saturday, March 21st at 11:00 AM the Gettysburg Quakers gathered in the Square in Gettysburg, PA for one hour of silent public worship. Quakers stand for Love, compassion, acceptance, and the sacred celebration of what we term “that of God” in each and every human being. We see in each person we encounter reflections of the face of God, illuminated by the Light within us all that is kindled by the Divine Spirit. Please join the American Friends Service Committee and Members of the Menallen Monthly Meeting of the Society of Friends (Quakers) to bear witness and to show resistance to hateful actions in our country, and most especially to show support for marginalized and vulnerable neighbors who have been vilified and oppressed.

Cinema Under the stars
The Gettysburg Film Commission will host a free “Cinema Under the Stars” event on April 25 at Seminary Ridge in recognition of National Child Abuse Prevention Month. The borough is partnering with the Adams County Children’s Advocacy Center to present a special outdoor screening of the 1973 animated classic Charlotte’s Web. The film will begin at sundown at the Schmucker House, located at 15 Seminary Ridge. Community members are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets and enjoy an evening under the stars with family and friends. The event is free and open to the public. Safe kids + strong families = healthy communities.
