The Adams County Community Foundation has awarded $100,000 in emergency food assistance grants to local nonprofits affected by the federal government shutdown and the state budget impasse, the foundation announced on Monday.
“Similar to our COVID-19 response that provided emergency funding in the initial days of the shutdown, we’re responding quickly now to help families, children, and seniors,” said Ralph Serpe, foundation president and CEO. “We have no idea how long federal and state funding will be held up, but we do know our local nonprofits, churches, and volunteer food-assistance groups need the dollars now to help people.”

The grants committee and board approved the awards, and the foundation distributed the funds within 72 hours of deciding to act.
Grants from the Fund for Adams County include SCCAP (Gettysburg Food Pantry) — $30,000; New Hope Ministries (Mobile Food Pantry: Abbottstown, East Berlin, Littlestown, New Oxford, Bendersville, Gardners, York Springs) — $30,000; Ruth’s Harvest — Gettysburg (food distribution for Gettysburg students) — $7,500; Ruth’s Harvest — Fairfield (food distribution for Fairfield students) — $2,500; Ruth’s Harvest — Littlestown (food distribution for Littlestown students) — $5,000; UACT — Johns Meals (food distribution for Upper Adams students) — $5,000; Holy Trinity Food Pantry — York Springs — $5,000; Upper Adams Food Pantry — Biglerville — $5,000; Seton Center (food pantry for southern Adams County) — $5,000; and Gettysburg Baptist Church (drive-through food distribution in Gettysburg) — $5,000.
Helping people in need is at the heart of the Community Foundation’s grantmaking program, and the Fund for Adams County makes these rapid-response grants possible.
