Vehicles from about 30 local Emergency Management System (EMS) units drove by the Wellspan Gettysburg Hospital yesterday to show thanks for essential hospital workers.

Over 90 hospital workers greeted the parade of fire trucks, ambulances, and police cruisers by clapping, cheering, and sometimes crying as they rolled by.
“When we were pulling in the amount of support was phenomenal,” said Gettysburg Deputy Fire Chief Edward Mizenko. “To see everything coming together and the support from around the county was incredible.”
Mizenko said almost every Adams County emergency unit was represented in the procession, as well as vehicles from York, PA and Hagerstown, MD.
Two medivac helicopters flew over the grounds as a further show of support.
The EMS units also treated the hospital workers to home-cooked meals of barbeque chicken, pasta, roasted potatoes, bread and butter, and desserts, prepared by Biggerstaff catering and local volunteers.
The event was paid for by contributions from the EMS units, local municipalities, and private donations.
“It was a great showing of support. It made me feel really good,” said Mizenko.
