Creature Feature Weekend Brings Horror and Nostalgia to Gettysburg

Fans of classic horror and science fiction flocked to the Gettysburg Wyndham Hotel March 28–30 for the return of Creature Feature Weekend, a celebration of vintage “Chiller Theater”-style programming and all things spooky. Organized by Sandy Yastrzemski and her team, the event paid homage to the late-night horror movie blocks once popular on local TV stations across the country.

Held in one of the most haunted towns in America, the convention featured over 80 vendors, two tattoo studios, food trucks, and a packed lineup of activities for fans young and old. From horror memorabilia and handmade crafts to film screenings and celebrity panels, the weekend had something for every monster-lover.

Celebrity guests included Tommy Chong of Cheech & Chong, Andrew Divoff (Wishmaster), Tim Cappello (The Lost Boys), and the cast of Evil Dead 2. Fans had the chance to meet stars, take photos, and attend live Q&As and movie commentaries at the nearby R/C Gateway Cinema.

Creature Feature Weekend also emphasized community and charity, hosting multiple “Scares That Care” auctions throughout the weekend to raise funds for families in need.

Attendees came in costume, adding to the spirited atmosphere, with Saturday’s costume contest and kids’ trick-or-treating among the highlights. “We want this to be a family-friendly event,” said Yastrzemski — and judging by the crowds and smiles, she succeeded.

Whether you came for the scares, the stars, or the nostalgia, Creature Feature Weekend offered a frightfully fun time for all.

When I ask where people attending are from, I hear Atlanta, LA, Pittsburgh, Virginia, New York, Ohio, West Virginia and New Jersey, among other locations. I don’t hear from many locals who benefit from having this great, positive and fun event right in their backyards! Supporting local events like this, which brings hundred if not thousands of visitors to the area over a three or four-day period, is an economic driver, especially during the “shoulder months”. Support your local events as well as businesses. The event… Read more »
