At the monthly Board of Supervisors Meeting on July 17, 2024, the board officially welcomed Cadet Jordan Spidle to the township police department.  Spidle was selected from 12 candidates who engaged in competitive interviews for appointment to attend the 125th HACC Police Academy as a Cumberland Township Police Department Cadet.

Spidle is a graduate of Hershey High School and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Westchester University.  He is a decorated Adams County Probation Officer, earned a Firearms Proficiency Award; and previously served as a Defensive Tactics Instructor.

Police Chief Matthew Trostel further reported the hiring of part time officer, Joe David, who is currently undergoing field training and slated to be released from training by the end of July.

The Cumberland Police Department held its annual bike safety rodeo in June at the Gettysburg Church of the Brethren.  Sgt. Rosenberger conducted bike safety checks and provided a riding course and safety training instructions.  He spoke with children about bicycle safety laws in Pennsylvania, the Pennsylvania bicycle helmet law, and other safety-related topics.  The event was well received by parents and children alike.

The supervisors also addressed a number of administrative, personnel and financial matters, as outlined in the agenda which you can find here:   Cumberland Township BOS Agenda July 17, 2024.
