Freedom Rider and Civil Rights Icon Joan Trumpauer Mulholland to speak in Gettysburg

The public is invited to an inspiring evening with civil rights legend Joan Trumpauer Mulholland and her son, Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Loki Mulholland, on Sunday, June 1, at 7:00 PM at the United Lutheran Seminary Chapel in Gettysburg.

The event, sponsored by the Lower Susquehanna Synod of the ELCA, will feature a compelling presentation exploring Joan Trumpauer Mulholland’s life and legacy. Known for her fearless activism during the Civil Rights Movement, Mulholland participated in over 50 sit-ins and demonstrations by the time she was 23, including the Freedom Rides, the Jackson Woolworth’s Sit-in, the March on Washington, and the Selma to Montgomery March. Her iconic Freedom Rider mugshot remains one of the most recognized images of the era.
