Garden Club dedicates Blue Star Memorial Marker at Harbaugh-Thomas Library

The Biglerville Garden Club dedicated a Blue Star Marker in a ceremony on Saturday at the Harbaugh-Thomas Library in Biglerville. It is in place and can be viewed along West York Street.


Garden Club member Kay Walters explained, “The Blue Star Marker is a celebration of veterans past and present.” The special marker will honor veterans, active-duty military members, and all who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

According to librarian Barbara Buckley, “The Blue Star Memorial Highway program began around 1945 when National Garden Clubs helped with the initiative following World War II.”

The program recognizes the men and women who have served through a nationwide system of highways and memorial markers placed in communities across the country.

The dedication ceremony concluded with light refreshments.
