Gettysburg Community Theatre has introduced a new visual identity inspired by one of the theatre’s simplest traditions: the ghost light.
A ghost light is a single bulb left burning on an empty stage after everyone has gone home. It has a
practical purpose, helping people safely cross a darkened stage, but it has also become a familiar
symbol of the theatre waiting for its performers and audience to return.
That light sits at the center of GCT’s new logo.
Lines extend from the bulb to create the appearance of a spark or burst of light. Depending on how it is viewed, the design may also resemble a flower opening or a stage surrounded by spotlights.
The new color palette also takes its cues from stage lighting. Its two primary colors are Lumina, a pale gold, and Fresnel, a deeper amber named for the lighting instrument often used to create a soft-edged wash onstage. Cooler blue and slate shades called Ambient and Moonlight complete the palette.
Together, the colors recall the warmth of footlights, marquee bulbs, and the glow of a theatre just before a performance begins.
GCT’s new identity includes several versions of the logo designed for different uses, from playbills and signs to merchandise and social media. Audiences will begin seeing the new branding across GCT materials in the coming weeks.
The new branding does not change GCT’s purpose. The theatre will continue to provide opportunities for people of different ages and experience levels to participate in live theatre, both onstage and behind the scenes.
