Over the past two days, two of the five Gettysburg Area School District (GASD) schools have been temporarily closed due to active COVID-19 cases in students or staff members.
James Gettys Elementary
The GASD website announced the district was notified on Wednesday afternoon by the Pennsylvania Department of Health (DOH) that there were two confirmed cases of COVID-19 among staff members at James Gettys Elementary school in Gettysburg.
In consultation with the Department of Health, James Gettys has moved to remote learning until Friday, September 25th.
GASD said DOH had notified them that no further contact tracing will need to occur with students at this time, and that DOH will contact additional staff members as they deem appropriate.
Gettysburg Area High School
GASD was notified this afternoon by DOH of two confirmed cases of COVID-19 in students at Gettysburg Area High School.
In consultation with the Department of Health, classes have been moved to online learning through Tuesday, September 22nd. During this closure, all high school activities and extracurricular activities will be canceled or postponed.
GASD will continue following all DOH guidance, and the district’s Health and Safety Plan, which will include heightened cleaning measures during the closure.
GASD said it would continue to montor the situation and post updates as they are needed.
