Gettysburg graduate Tegan Kuhns has become one of the highest-drafted baseball players ever to come out of south-central Pennsylvania after being selected by the St. Louis Cardinals with the 32nd overall pick in the 2026 Major League Baseball Draft.
Kuhns, a right-handed pitcher and sophomore at the University of Tennessee, was chosen with a competitive balance first-round selection awarded to the Cardinals. The pick is given to certain lower-revenue franchises under Major League Baseball’s draft rules.
This season at Tennessee, Kuhns earned second-team All-Southeastern Conference honors after emerging as one of the Volunteers’ top starters. In 14 starts, he struck out 106 batters and recorded a complete-game shutout while helping anchor the pitching staff.
Before arriving in Knoxville, Kuhns built an impressive career at Gettysburg High School. He finished his senior season with a school-record 193 strikeouts and 14 victories, according to the University of Tennessee.
Kuhns also earned recognition as a 2023 All-American Classic participant, was a two-time first-team Mid-Penn Keystone Division selection and was named to the 2024 Perfect Game Preseason Atlantic All-Region First Team.
Kuhns now begins the next chapter of his baseball career with one of the sport’s most successful franchises. The Cardinals have won 11 World Series championships and have a long history of developing homegrown pitching talent.

Wow, that’s pretty amazing! Congratulations! We are from St. Louis, Missouri and I’ll tell you that St. Louisans are very loyal Cardinals fans! We even had a bench hand painted by Marty Mummert in Gettysburg dedicated to the St. Louis Cardinals! Wish I could attach a pic to this comment.
