This morning at about 12:15 a.m. the Gettysburg Police Department was dispatched to the area of Chambersburg St. and Racehorse Alley for a reported shots fired call.
Officers responded to the area and located a gunshot victim in the 100 Block of Chambersburg St. Witnesses reported hearing the shots and seeing people flee the area on foot. Emergency Medical Personnel were summoned to the scene.

The victim was transported to the Adams County Emergency Services Building where an EMS Helicopter was standing by. The victim was then flown to a Trauma Center in York.
Investigation revealed the exact scene of the shooting was in the parking lot area of Members First Credit Union, 105 Chambersburg St. Investigation also revealed the identity of a suspect, Benjamin Fischer, 20 years of age, of Gettysburg. The investigation is ongoing.
Police obtained a search warrant for the suspect’s residence and an arrest warrant for the suspect was obtained. Fischer was taken into custody at his residence without incident. The firearm believed to have been used in this incident was recovered at the suspect’s residence pursuant to the search warrant.
The victim, whose identity is being withheld pending notification of family members, is from the Harrisburg area. The victim was reportedly in critical condition having undergone emergency surgery for the gunshot wounds.
