Gettysburg Rising Kicks off $2,500 Campaign for Help Those in Need Due to COVID-19

Dear Friends,

Leon Reed did an outstanding job at Gettysburg Rising’s April meeting informing us about the struggles of people who are economically disadvantaged in Adams county and highlighting how the problem is being magnified during the coronivirus pandemic. After his presentation, we had a group brainstorm about ways we can help.

We quickly identified food insecurity as one of the most urgent problems. We want to go beyond what our food pantries are able to do and provide grocery store gift cards to agencies and social workers who work one-on-one with struggling families.

We have an initial goal to raise $2500 to distribute in gift cards to families and individuals in need. We would like to accomplish this in the next two weeks. If you would like to help, please contact me through this email, gettysburgrising@gmail.com, or FB messenger for where to mail a contribution or gift card. You can also donate via Paypal at www.gettysburgrising.org

In case you’re curious about numbers, 24% of people in Adams County, and 54% of those in Gettysburg have incomes that do not allow them to meet their basic necessities. That’s under normal circumstances. Now the need is even greater.

You may also want to donate directly to agencies like SCCAP, Manos Unidas, support your local restaurants by ordering takeout, and buying online from local businesses. There are FB groups dedicated to both of these endeavors.

Lastly, many of you will be receiving a stimulus check in the near future. Please consider setting aside a portion of the stimulus to donate or invest in our locally owned businesses. Please share the wealth if you are able to.
