Gingerbread Celebration Winner Offers Class With Tips For Upcoming Contest

Bakers, the November 27th deadline is coming to submit entry forms for the Adams County Arts Council’s 15th Annual Gingerbread Celebration and Holiday Market, Dec 6-8. For anyone who needs encouragement, the Arts Council is offering a special gingerbread building and decorating class on November 9, 10 am to 12:30 pm, led by Michelle Sneath. She, along with husband Paul, has created stunning gingerbread houses that have won top honors the past several years.

Participants will learn expert techniques for constructing and decorating a gingerbread house, including hands-on experience with making “cement” icing and effectively using holiday candies. Each attendee will decorate a gingerbread person to take home. For more information and to register, visit adamsarts.org.

This year’s gingerbread creations will be eligible for more cash prizes than ever before so now’s the time to start planning. The contest is open to all. Prizes include People’s Choice ($500) and Best Business (Ginger Trophy), which will be awarded by popular vote. Votes cost $1 each. A panel of judges will award Best of Show ($500), Best School/Nonprofit ($200), Most Original Concept ($200), and Best Team Effort ($200). Entry forms are available at adamsarts.org, by calling (717) 334-5006, or at the Center at 125 S. Washington St., Gettysburg. Vendor forms are also available to sell your hand-made wares at the Holiday Market.

Held in conjunction with the Gettysburg Christmas Festival, the event is made possible through the sponsorship of Kennie’s Market, Gettysburg Chocolate Market, and Mr. Ed’s Elephant Museum & Candy Emporium. Admission is free for children; a $1 donation is requested for adults. There will be a ticketed Preview Auction on Dec 5, where you may win one of these wonderful houses to take home.

The mission of the Adams County Arts Council is to cultivate an arts-rich community.
